Techiman South results could’ve pushed 2020 election to run off – Dr. Aheto

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for announcing the 2020 presidential election results without including the disputed Techiman South constituency.
The NDC argues that the inclusion of these results could have triggered a second-round election, as it would have prevented President-elect Nana Addo Akufo-Addo from securing the required 50 percent plus one vote.
Despite the EC stating that adding the Techiman South votes would not change the outcome, the NDC rejects the results, claiming that the EC’s rush to declare them amid unresolved issues undermines Ghana’s democracy. Dr. Justice Moses Aheto, a member of the NDC’s collation team, accused the EC of manipulating the figures, pointing to inconsistencies in the numbers released by the Commission.
The NDC’s calculations, based on the EC’s own data, suggest that adding Techiman South’s 128,018 votes to Mahama’s total would have resulted in a runoff, with Akufo-Addo receiving 49.26% and Mahama 46.76%.
Aheto argues that the EC’s exclusion of Techiman South is not only irresponsible but also fundamentally alters the percentages and the legitimacy of the election outcome.
