The Techiman Central Market is set to undergo a major upgrade to transform it into a modern market that reflects the new status of Techiman as the capital of the Bono East Region.
In an exclusive interview with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Techiman, Mr. John Kofi Donyina, it was revealed that the Techiman Municipal Assembly is currently working on obtaining approval for proposals that will enable the transformation of the market. The aim is to create a state-of-the-art facility that will cater to the growing population and boost the economic activities of the region.
According to Mr. Donyina, the proposed upgrade will include the construction of modern stalls, improved sanitation facilities, better access roads, and enhanced security measures to ensure the market operates efficiently and meets the needs of both traders and customers. He emphasized that the market’s current infrastructure is outdated and does not adequately serve the demands of a city that is rapidly growing in size and importance as the new regional capital.
The MCE also highlighted that the project is part of a broader initiative to modernize Techiman and improve its infrastructure to accommodate the influx of people and businesses following the creation of the Bono East Region. He noted that the upgraded market will not only provide a better shopping experience for locals and visitors but also offer improved conditions for traders, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are vital to the region’s economy.
Mr. Donyina further pointed out that the project is expected to attract more investments into the area, creating new business opportunities and jobs, while contributing to the overall growth and development of the region. He expressed optimism that with the approval of the proposals, work on the market upgrade would begin soon, and the community would soon witness the transformation of one of Techiman’s key economic hubs.
