Two Dead, Ten Injured in Techiman-Sunyani Highway Car Crash

Two people died in a road accident on the Sunyani-Techiman highway last Thursday. The victims have been identified as 42-year-old driver David Akurugu and 70-year-old Afia Martha, while ten others sustained injuries.
The crash involved a Toyota Highlander (registration AS 1037–17) and a minibus (registration AS 1291-09) at Nsuta Hill along the Sunyani-Techiman route. The minibus, which was carrying passengers and bags of maize, was traveling toward Techiman, while the Toyota Highlander was heading to Sunyani.

According to Techiman Divisional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Andrews Kofi Okonengye, the minibus driver, Akurugu, struggled to ascend Nsuta Hill and was reportedly driving in a zigzag pattern to manage the incline. During this maneuver, the Toyota Highlander, driven by 36-year-old Alexander Gyan, collided with the side of the minibus.
ASP Okonengye confirmed that both Akurugu and a female passenger died instantly from the collision. Four of the injured are receiving treatment at Valley View Hospital in Techiman, while the remaining six are admitted at Techiman Holy Family Hospital. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital Morgue.
