Often, when a music group is on the verge of breaking up, it usually begins with members giving various excuses, and one common sign is when someone starts pursuing a solo project.
Well, Flex Newspaper caught up with Pappi of the 5Five group to learn what is currently happening with the team and to clarify whether the group is still active. According to him, “the group still exists.” He explained that his partner has been busy, so he decided to keep things going by working on a solo album. He added that he prefers not to mention names yet, but he plans to feature both established and emerging artistes.
When asked why he has not released any new music, Pappi said he is taking his time because he wants quality work, not something rushed. “I will take as long as I need to produce something solid. I will drop singles and promote them as I work on the album,” he noted. On whether he finds it hard to fit into today’s music trends, he said their first album already had songs similar to what is trending now. “What is happening today is basically what we used to do, just with a little twist,” he said.
Speaking about the music industry, Pappi said it is growing, but things appear one-sided. He believes the media focuses only on artistes who are trending and ignores others who are not currently in the spotlight. He added that the genuine talent in the industry is small, and what dominates now is hype. “When we started, it was about real talent, not noise. There was no Instagram and access to YouTube was rare. Today most new artistes are good, but only about twenty percent have real talent. The rest is hype. If you have money, you pay and the media pushes you. Without money, no one pays attention,” he stated.
When asked if he is speaking from personal experience, Pappi said his fans still support him because he grew up in the street and still has a strong following. He also revealed that he plans to release five to ten songs before Christmas and encouraged Ghanaians to watch out. However, he mentioned that the group cannot release new music from 5Five at the moment because even if they do, they will not be able to promote it properly since one member is occupied with other commitments.
