Boy arrested for r*ping 74-year-old woman

The Techiman Police have arrested a 20-year-old unemployed man for r*ping a 74-year-old woman in a bush near Maampehia, close to Techiman.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, informed the Ghana News Agency on Friday in Sunyani that the suspect, Yaw Amos, fled the area after committing the crime.

According to ASP Tawiah, the incident occurred on July 18, 2015, when Amos entered the farm of Madam Mary Kissiwa, s3xually assaulted her, and then ran away. Although the woman reported the assault to the police, efforts to locate Amos were unsuccessful until January of this year, when he was brought to the station on charges of theft.

On January 9, Amos was caught stealing yam tubers and cassava from a farm, and he was handed over to the Techiman Police division. Upon being processed, officers recognized him as a suspect from their wanted list. They subsequently invited the elderly woman, who was able to identify Amos as the person who had assaulted her.

ASP Tawiah confirmed that Amos admitted to the assault and was remanded into police custody to assist with further investigations.
