Techiman City Requests Extra Time to Register Players After Legal Delays

Techiman City Football Club, recently promoted to the Ghana Premier League, has formally appealed to the Premier League Board (PLB) of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for special approval to register additional players, allowing them to strengthen their squad ahead of their debut in the league.

After a prolonged legal battle, the club, based in Techiman, was declared the legitimate champion of Zone Three of the Division One League, earning them a spot in this season’s Premier League. However, due to the uncertainty surrounding their legal status, the club was unable to make solid plans for player recruitment before the registration deadline on January 20. As a result, they are now requesting a special dispensation from the GFA to add more players to their roster.

In an exclusive interview with Graphic Sports, Techiman City FC President, Charles Kojo Ntim, expressed that while the club was delighted to have secured promotion, their joy would be fully realized if the GFA grants their request for additional signings. “Everyone knows what we’ve gone through to get here, and we’re excited to have made it to the Premier League. However, we would like to appeal to the FA for more time to register a few more players to strengthen our squad,” Ntim, also known as Micky Charles, stated.

He acknowledged that while the club met the registration deadline, they are at a disadvantage compared to other teams that had a more settled squad and were able to make stronger signings during the off-season. He emphasized that this gap could impact their performance in the upcoming season.

Ntim also called for financial support to help the club cope with the higher costs associated with running a Premier League team. He pointed out that managing a Premier League club requires significantly more resources than operating a Division One League side.

Techiman City FC finished top of Zone Three and will join Ebusua Dwarfs and Dreams FC as the newly promoted clubs for the upcoming season. Despite an ongoing match-fixing case against them, the PLB has allowed Techiman City to participate in the league while investigations into their case continue.

The club is set to appear before the Ghana FA Ethics Committee to answer allegations that they paid bribes to secure a victory over WA African United during their Division One campaign.
