Sammy Kay Arrested Over sharing Explicit Content

Celebrity blogger Samuel Dortey Kumah, also known as Sammy Kay, has found himself in legal trouble after being arrested and handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
According to a statement from the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) issued on November 16, 2023, Sammy Kay was detained for allegedly sharing sexually explicit content and unlawfully using images of CSA officials. The statement read: “Reference is made to a publication on some social media platforms, containing sexually explicit material and unlawful use of the images of Cyber Security Authority (CSA) officials by Samuel Dortey Kumah, owner of Sammykaymedia. He has since been arrested and handed over to the CID of the Ghana Police Service.”
The CSA also issued a warning to the public regarding the sharing of obscene material, emphasizing that the use of CSA officials’ images in connection with explicit content was a misrepresentation and criminal in nature. The authority distanced itself from the incident, urging people to disregard any misleading information.
The statement concluded by reaffirming CSA’s commitment to protecting the digital space in collaboration with other security agencies, ensuring the digital safety of Ghanaians.
Although the statement did not specify the content Sammy Kay had shared, a review of his social media revealed an apology post. In his apology on November 15, 2023, Sammy Kay clarified that a photo of a man in a white T-shirt with the words “National Cyber Security Awareness Programme” was mistakenly paired with a video circulating online.
Sammy Kay stated: “Upon further investigations, we found out this picture above is not the same person in the video circulating yesterday on Twitter. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the post we initially made and deeply regret our actions in pairing this picture with Abena Korkor’s picture.”
The viral video, which emerged on November 15, depicted explicit content with a man and a woman engaging in what appeared to be a form of phone sex. Some Twitter users speculated that the video was released by Abena Korkor, who had previously threatened to leak videos of others after her own explicit video was shared online. However, there was no proof of her involvement.
Amid the controversy, musician and satirist Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus) publicly denied the claims, asserting that the individuals in the video and photo were not the same person. “I don’t know if he has undergone cosmetic surgery recently because the person in the viral video and my friend are two totally different people,” A Plus posted.
