Rocky Dawuni Makes History With GRAMMY Nomination for Branches of the Same Tree

Rocky Dawuni, an artist signed under Cumbancha, has earned a GRAMMY nomination for his album Branches of the Same Tree in the Best Reggae Album category. This recognition makes Dawuni the first Ghanaian ever nominated in the category and the only non-Jamaican contender this year.

He will be competing with major reggae icons such as Morgan Heritage, Luciano, Jah Cure, and Barrington Levy. The nomination also marks a historic first for Cumbancha, as it is the label’s inaugural GRAMMY-nominated album.

Sharing his reaction to the honor, Dawuni expressed deep gratitude and humility. “I feel truly honored and humbled. I’ve always aimed to give my very best in my work, and it’s encouraging to see it being acknowledged,” he said. He explained that Branches of the Same Tree emphasizes the shared roots of humanity and encourages listeners to hold onto hope, compassion, and unity.

Final voting for the GRAMMY winners closes on January 15th, 2016. Voting members are encouraged to consider Rocky Dawuni in this year’s selection. The 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards ceremony will air live on CBS on Monday, February 15, 2016, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
