67 Dead in Fatal Techiman-Kintampo Highway Accident, Dozens Injured

An official report from the Jema Government Hospital has confirmed that 67 people lost their lives in a tragic accident on the Techiman-Kintampo highway in the early hours of Friday. Two survivors who had sustained injuries later died upon arrival at the hospital, while 35 of the deceased were burned beyond recognition when one of the buses involved in the collision caught fire due to the impact.

Dr. Prince Kwabena Tabiri, the Medical Officer in charge at the hospital, told the media that the charred bodies had been placed in the hospital’s morgue. He also mentioned that approximately 30 injured individuals were receiving treatment, with many in critical condition.

At the Techiman Holy Family Hospital, Mr. Christopher Akanbobnaab, the Administrator, reported that out of the 30 injured patients admitted, six were in critical condition. He confirmed that no fatalities had been recorded among the injured, although two of those in critical condition were undergoing surgery.

The accident occurred around 1:00 AM when two buses collided head-on. One bus, a Grandbird with registration number GT 5694-18, was traveling from Garu to Kumasi, while the other, a VIP bus with registration number GT 3916-17, was traveling from Accra to Bolgatanga.

GNA’s investigation revealed that the collision took place near “Watchman,” a farming settlement located along the highway between Tuobodom in the Techiman North District and Jema.
