Coronavirus has spoilt my chances of winning VGMA ‘Artiste of the year ‘ – Kofi Kinaata

Award winning highlife artiste and songwriter Kofi Kinaata has sparked major debate after stating that he would have taken home the VGMA Artiste of the Year and Most Popular Song of the Year titles if the coronavirus outbreak had not disrupted the event.
Speaking with Amansan Krakye on Radio Central in Cape Coast, Kofi Kinaata explained that he believes he was the clear Artiste of the Year for 2019. According to him, he delivered more than any other musician that year with hit songs, multiple ambassadorial deals, countless performances, and being named the most influential youth.
He added that this does not mean he expects to win Artiste of the Year by force if the awards were held today. He simply believes he earned that title in 2019 and is unbothered by differing opinions.
When asked whether Sarkodie’s hit track Oofeetso threatened his chances, he responded that Oofeetso is a solid song and he respects Sarkodie, but the most popular song should be the one that truly crossed boundaries. In his view, Things Fall Apart achieved that reach.
He compared it to Bailey’s, an expensive drink found mainly in nightclubs, and Coca Cola, a more affordable drink that can be found everywhere including nightclubs, churches, mosques, and even Saudi Arabia where alcohol is not sold. He said Things Fall Apart reached that level of widespread presence, which is what defines a most popular song.
Kofi Kinaata has also released a new thought provoking track titled Behind The Scenes to entertain his fans during the partial lockdown caused by the pandemic.
