Bridget Otoo Reveals Attack by Senior NPP Official Over E-Levy Comment

Prominent media figure Bridget Otoo has revealed that a senior member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government was behind an attack on her after a comment she made about the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy).

According to Otoo, she had shared information about a bank transaction related to the E-levy before it was passed. However, her post was labeled as fake news on social media, which led to a targeted attack against her.

She further explained that following the viral spread of her post, the government official allegedly instructed individuals to attack her for spreading false information.

It was later confirmed that the information Otoo had shared about the E-levy was accurate, but the official never issued a public apology. Instead, he apologized to her privately.

Bridget Otoo emphasized that Ghanaians should not be surprised when government officials fail to apologize publicly for their wrongdoings, as this is a common trait among politicians.

She wrote on her X page: “Sometime last year, a senior member of this government tweeted something for his supporters to attack me over a bank transaction on E-levy. They labeled it ‘fake,’ but it wasn’t. When the truth came out, he called to apologize, but admitted he couldn’t do it publicly. I shrugged. So please don’t be surprised when they don’t apologize or defend their abuse and insults. It goes all the way to the top of the NPP hierarchy.”

Her comments follow calls from some members of the public for the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, to apologize after he referred to OccupyBoG protesters as “hooligans.”
