Asantehene Sets Up Peace Committee to Foster Harmony with Techiman

His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has established a three-member Peace Committee to promote lasting harmony between Asanteman and the Techiman Traditional Area.

The initiative aims to resolve a long-standing dispute dating back 18 years to clashes in Buoyem and Tuobodom over stool elevations, which led to deaths and property destruction. Rival chiefs currently govern the affected towns, loyal either to the Asantehene or Techimanhene.

In recent reconciliation efforts, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw of Techiman sent delegations to welcome Otumfuo home from South Africa and to mourn the late Queenmother Nana Afia Serwaa Kobi Ampem II at Manhyia Palace, presenting gifts including yam tubers.

The Peace Committee, consisting of Archbishop Peter Akwasi Sarpong, Archbishop Thomas Kwaku Mensah, and Dr. Donkor Forjuor, has been tasked with ensuring lasting peace. Otumfuo expressed hope that Techiman would eventually reunite with Asanteman and thanked them for their continued support, including yam contributions.
