Since the early 2020s, rap artists from various countries, particularly Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and Tanzania, have come together to display their lyrical skills at the annual Hennessy Cypher.
Over the years, the Cypher has become a key platform for showcasing and recognizing the best rap talent across the African continent.
The 2025 edition, produced by South Africa’s Kabza De Small, featured a dynamic lineup, including Joey B (Ghana), Blaqbonez (Nigeria), Femi One (Kenya), Ms Banks (Nigeria), and Javia (Tanzania).
Joey B from Ghana, in particular, has received widespread acclaim, with many considering his performance a standout moment that reinforces Ghana’s dominance in African rap.
