Techiman Assembly to Establish Cashew Processing Factory Under 1D1F Initiative

The Techiman Municipal Assembly plans to set up a cashew processing factory to add value to raw cashew nuts for export, according to Municipal Planning Officer Ebenezer Amoah.
He explained that the Assembly has made the One-District-One-Factory (1D1F) initiative a priority in its medium-term development plan and has already submitted a proposal to the government for approval.
Speaking at an accountability forum in Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo Region, Mr. Amoah noted that the Assembly sees both the 1D1F programme and the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative as key avenues for creating employment for young people and reducing poverty.
The forum, organized by the Centre of Posterity Interest Organization (COPIO) with support from the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), brought together department heads, farmers, traders, assembly members, and other stakeholders. The event forms part of a project aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the use of public resources by encouraging active citizen participation to improve service delivery and development. It also provided a platform for the public to question duty-bearers.
Mr. Amoah further revealed that the Assembly has raised thousands of cashew seedlings for farmers involved in the Planting for Food and Jobs programme. These seedlings are expected to boost cashew production and supply raw materials for the proposed factory.
Additionally, the Assembly’s medium-term development plan includes budget provisions for mechanizing boreholes, building public toilets, paving the Nana Abena Market, and extending electricity to underserved parts of the municipality
