Two Arrested in Techiman with 294 Slabs of Marijuana

The Techiman Divisional Police Command in the Bono East Region has arrested two individuals in connection with the possession of 294 slabs of wrapped weeds believed to be marijuana.

The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Samuel Peprah, a teacher at the Ejura Roman Catholic School, and 47-year-old Kofi Agyemang, also known as Agyengo from Kumasi, were apprehended after a police patrol team intercepted their vehicle.

According to the Chief Superintendent of the Regional Police Command, Ohene Boadi Bossman, the arrest took place around 2:00 am on Monday following a tip-off. Police had been informed about a plan to transport cannabis to Techiman for sale, and while the suspects were expected on Saturday, they arrived early Monday morning instead.

“We received intelligence that some individuals were bringing cannabis into Techiman for distribution,” Bossman explained. “Although they were supposed to arrive on Saturday, they showed up on Monday at dawn. We set up an ambush on the highway, and at around 2:00 am, we spotted a Hyundai vehicle with the registration number GC 292-11. We stopped the vehicle and conducted a search, during which we discovered the 294 slabs of wrapped cannabis, but the driver managed to escape.”

The police are currently searching for the driver, who is still at large, and have plans to publish his photo if he is not found soon. The two arrested men are expected to appear in court on Thursday.

“We are optimistic that we will catch the driver, but if not, we will release his photo to the public,” Bossman stated. “Techiman is now a regional capital, and it’s crucial to start tackling crime here before it gets out of hand.”
