Techiman MCE Warns Residents Against Online and Local Investment Scams

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Techiman, Mr. John Kofi Donyina, has warned residents about investment scams, including those conducted online.

He highlighted that such scams could pose serious financial risks to the people of Techiman and the country. Speaking at a press briefing at the Techiman Municipal Assembly, Mr. Donyina reminded the public that several residents in the Brong Ahafo Region were defrauded last year through microfinance schemes such as DKM, JESTAR, GOD IS LOVE, and Little Drop, which resulted in significant property losses.

The MCE noted that a group of individuals in Techiman is currently collecting money from unsuspecting clients using tactics similar to those of the previous scams. The group allegedly accepts deposits via Mobile Money and promises to double the funds within two weeks.

He also warned about another ongoing scam targeting taxi drivers in the municipality, where perpetrators collect GH₵5 daily from drivers with the false promise of providing brand-new cars for taxi operations—a scheme he described as highly dangerous.

Mr. Donyina emphasized the role of the media in informing the public to prevent losses, stressing that the Assembly cannot be held responsible for any transactions with these unregistered groups that do not pay taxes to the municipality.

He appealed to residents to remain cautious and warned that any investment with these groups would be undertaken at their own risk
