Techiman MCE Urges Youth to Embrace Agriculture

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Techiman, Hon. Kwaku Adjei Mensah, is encouraging young people to take advantage of the numerous opportunities within the agricultural sector, stressing that agriculture remains a major catalyst for innovation, job creation, and national growth.
He delivered this message during the Springboard Road Show 2025 in Techiman, the sixth stop of the national youth empowerment tour under the Ghana Grows initiative. The event gathered young people, traditional leaders, and local officials to deliberate on skills development, entrepreneurship, and mental health.
Hon. Mensah highlighted agriculture as one of the most viable paths for youth employment and self-reliance, urging participants to build practical skills and make use of available support systems from both government and private actors to boost productivity.
“Agriculture continues to be one of the most promising sectors for our youth, offering countless opportunities for innovation and enterprise,” he emphasized. “I urge every young person to develop hands-on skills and tap into the various agricultural interventions to improve their livelihoods.”
The Techiman programme marked the Road Show’s shift from the northern and savannah regions to the middle belt. Covering all 16 regions and aiming to reach over 500,000 young people, the initiative focuses on youth empowerment through innovation, inclusion, and mentorship.
A major session on mental health and psychosocial support underscored the importance of emotional resilience and self-care in achieving personal and career success. Facilitators also informed participants of the free counselling services available through the Ghana Grows programme.
Two members of the Ghana Grows Girls Club shared testimonies of transformation.
Ellen Anyaki explained that e-mentoring in entrepreneurship and food processing enabled her to establish a garlic and ginger paste business after emerging winner of the 60-Day Backyard Farming Challenge, which provided her with a starter kit and financial support.
Haggar Sackey, a beneficiary of the Empower360 training, said the soap-making skills she acquired inspired her to create Evert & Co., a youth-led venture that trains senior high school students in soap production and entrepreneurship.
Traditional leaders, including Nana Adwoa Akwaabea Sika (New Krobo Hemaa), Nana Kwadwo Yeboah (Atipimhene, Krobo Kyidom Traditional Council), and Nana Afia Yeboaa (Atipimhemaa, Krobo Kyidom Traditional Council), attended the event.
Nana Kwadwo Yeboah, who also serves as a Ghana Grows Youth Ambassador, shared that training at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) strengthened his understanding of agriculture and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ATVET), equipping him to mentor young people through Career Clinic sessions.
The Springboard Road Show 2025 continues to inspire a generation of skilled, confident, and purpose-driven youth. After the stop in Techiman, the nationwide tour moves to the Bono Region, advancing its message of innovation, empowerment, and enterprise for every young Ghanaian ready to grow.
