Techiman MCE Accused of Diverting Market Store Funds into Private Account

The Techiman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Philip Oppong Amponsah, has been sharply criticized by a group known as the Action Patriots for Justice, who have accused him of involvement in questionable dealings concerning the allocation of market stores in the municipality.

During a press conference in Techiman, the group alleged that the MCE misappropriated funds generated from the allocation of these market stores by directing the money into a private account instead of the assembly’s official accounts.

The group also claimed that the process of awarding and constructing the stores did not follow proper procedures, violating sections of the procurement act.

Isaac Kwain, the group’s spokesperson, raised concerns about a letter dated January 25, 2016, in which the MCE instructed market women to pay their rent fees into a private account, despite the assembly having several public bank accounts. He further accused the MCE of collaborating with private individuals to divert state funds into a personal account, calling on him to clarify the reasons for his unilateral decision to do so.
