Techiman market to be developed to international standard

President John Dramani Mahama announced on Wednesday that his administration intends to transform the Techiman Central Market into a modern, internationally recognized facility.

Speaking to the chiefs and residents of Techiman during his three-day “Accounting to the People Tour” in the Brong-Ahafo Region, the President explained that the design phase of the market upgrade has been completed. He added that the project would soon be opened for tender, allowing construction to begin.

President Mahama noted that the initiative includes the expansion and modernization of infrastructure within the market, as well as improvements to the town’s water supply system.

He also revealed that a contract has been awarded for the construction of 16 kilometers of asphalt roads within the municipality, and the contractor is expected to begin work soon.

According to the President, the upgraded market is expected to significantly boost economic activity, especially given that it serves traders from neighboring Burkina Faso, Niger, and Ivory Coast.

Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, the Paramount Chief of the Techiman Traditional Area, commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for ensuring that the area benefits from national development projects. He appealed for the establishment of a Municipal Hospital to support the town’s rapid growth and increasing population, driven by its strategic location.

He expressed appreciation for ongoing works on roads such as the Asueyi Junction–Asueyi, Grotto–Buoyem, Tuobodom–Offuman, and Bamiri–Aworopataa routes.

Oseadeeyo Ameyaw IV further highlighted ongoing construction at Techiman Senior High School— including the administration block, boys’ and girls’ dormitories, and a 12-classroom block—along with the 12-classroom block, dining hall, and kitchen at Mount Carmel SHS. He said these developments would greatly enhance teaching and learning.

The paramount chief also called for urgent repairs to the market’s drainage system, the tiling of walkways, and the provision of additional fire tenders to strengthen the Municipal Fire Service.
