Techiman Leads NHIS Mobile Renewals, with Significant Growth Across Districts

Techiman, the capital of the Bono East Region, has emerged as the leader among all districts in Ghana, registering the highest number of NHIS membership mobile renewals for October 2021 through the *929# shortcode.

Techiman recorded a total of 12,564 NHIS mobile renewals, placing it at the top of the rankings. It was followed by the Ga district in the Greater Accra Region, which achieved 11,239 renewals, and Manhyia in the Ashanti Region with 10,546 renewals.

When looking at the top 20 districts ranked by the ratio of mobile renewals to total renewals for October 2021, Yilo Krobo in the Eastern Region led with an impressive 96.6% ratio. Talensi Nabdam in the Upper East Region ranked second with 96.3%, and Afigya Sekyere in the Ashanti Region came in third with 96.1%.

For the cumulative NHIS mobile renewals from January 2019 to October 2021, Ga district topped the list with 341,933 total renewals, followed closely by Techiman with 329,730. Manhyia came in third with 288,874 renewals, while Tema in the Greater Accra Region ranked fourth with 281,968.

In terms of percentage growth in mobile renewals from September 2021 to October 2021, Saboba/Chereponi in the Northern Region led the nation with a 40% increase, demonstrating the most significant improvement in renewal rates. Karaga district in the Northern Region and Aowin-Suaman in Western North followed closely, both with a 36% increase.

Overall, most regions in the country saw increases in NHIS membership mobile renewals between September and October 2021, with the exception of the Upper East Region.

The data also revealed that children under 18 consistently recorded the highest number of mobile renewals, followed by members of the informal sector. The informal sector consists primarily of individuals who pay annual premiums of around Ghc30 and are not contributors to the SSNIT pension scheme.
