Techiman Assembly Approves GH₵1 Million Budget to Convert Health Centre into Women and Children’s Hospital

The Techiman Municipal Assembly in the Brong Ahafo Region has approved a budget of GH₵1,019,317.17 for the transformation of the Techiman Health Centre into a dedicated Women and Children’s Hospital. The primary aim of this project is to improve access to healthcare services for women, children, and other vulnerable groups in the region.

The project will be funded through the Urban Development Grant (UDG), which is allocated to support infrastructure projects that benefit urban communities. The conversion of the Techiman Health Centre is expected to significantly enhance maternal and child healthcare services and also help ease the pressure and overcrowding at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital, providing much-needed relief to the healthcare system in the area.

Mr. Phillip Oppong Amponsah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Techiman, announced the budget approval during his sessional address to the Assembly. In his address, he also mentioned that several other clinics, including those in Nsuta and Forikrom, are being considered for upgrading to polyclinic status in the near future. These upgrades are part of a broader effort to bolster healthcare infrastructure and complement the services provided by the Holy Family Hospital.

The MCE further expressed his commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery in the municipality, ensuring that more people, especially women and children, have access to vital medical services without having to travel long distances.
