Rainstorm Ravages Techiman: Homes, Schools, and Hospital Facilities Destroyed

A severe rainstorm that struck the Techiman Municipality in the Brong Ahafo Region early Monday morning has destroyed 18 houses, three schools, and the fence wall of the Holy Family Hospital.

The storm also ruined household property, including refrigerators, cooking utensils, clothing, food items, learning materials, and personal computers.

Among the worst-affected facilities were Good Shepherd School, Ahmadiyya A School, Gyarko JHS, and the Holy Family Hospital.

Speaking to Citi News after an initial inspection, the Municipal NADMO Coordinator, Jibril Kesse Larbi, described the destruction as extensive. He said arrangements were being made to provide relief supplies to those affected. Larbi added that assessments were ongoing and urged any victims who had not yet reported their situation to NADMO to do so.

The storm, which began around 12:40 a.m. and lasted about two hours, caused widespread damage in Ahenbronoso, Abourso, Hausa Line, and Dwomo.

Larbi noted that some residents had already begun re-roofing their homes and praised neighbors who had offered temporary shelter to displaced families.

Municipal Coordinating Director Ibrahim Kwaku Acheampong urged residents to adhere to building and zoning regulations to prevent future disasters. He said the assembly was awaiting NADMO’s full report and promised support for the affected, calling on NGOs and corporate organizations to assist.

Municipal Information Officer Imoro Ayibani highlighted a recent one-week public education campaign on the 2017 budget, which stressed the importance of positive civic behavior and community involvement in development. He advised residents to plant more trees around homes and schools to act as windbreaks and reduce the impact of future storms, helping ensure a safer rainy season
