Haruna Iddrisu Claims NDC Candidate Was Robbed of Techiman South Seat, Demands Re-Collation

Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, has claimed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Techiman South, Christopher Baasongti, was robbed of his seat in the recent elections. He argued that the Electoral Commission (EC)’s declaration of the seat in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is fraudulent, and the NDC will not accept it.

“Christopher Baasongti of the NDC won the Techiman South seat. Let anyone, including the media, demand a transparent and public collation of the results, station by station, and we will prove who the real winner is,” Iddrisu told JoyNews’ Joseph Opoku Gakpo.

The Techiman South election became controversial after NDC supporters prevented the presiding officer from declaring Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the NPP candidate, as the winner. The NDC has rejected the result and intends to challenge it.

The MP for Tamale South called on the EC to publicly and transparently re-collate the Techiman South results in line with Ghana’s laws. He further warned that his side of the House would not participate in the inauguration on January 7 unless the Techiman South results are re-collated.

Iddrisu also challenged the EC to release the official parliamentary results for Techiman South, stating that if the issue is not resolved according to Ghana’s regulations, the NDC would make the results a condition for their participation in the swearing-in ceremony, which is crucial for securing the majority in Parliament.
