Techiman Holy Family Hospital Records 30 New Cholera Cases

The Techiman Holy Family Hospital has recorded 30 new cholera cases, including one death, in the first quarter of 2015, despite reports that the cholera epidemic has been contained across the country.

The municipality of Techiman was one of the areas severely affected by the cholera outbreak in 2014 when the epidemic worsened.

Dr. Ernest Ameyaw, the Medical Director at the hospital, confirmed to Citi News that while the reported cases are accurate, most of the cholera cases originated from neighboring towns, with a few coming from within the municipality itself.

Madam Hi-Sin-Ta Kumpuolo, a public nurse at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital responsible for reproductive and child health services, urged the public to maintain cleanliness, particularly with the rainy season approaching.

At the same time, waste management in the municipality continues to be a significant challenge, despite efforts to clear the large piles of refuse that have accumulated.

“It is therefore important that individuals would take it upon themselves to manage the refuse they generate so as to avoid any further spread of the disease,” she emphasized.
