We’ll Thank Akufo-Addo In 2020 – Techiman Chief

Nana Oseadeayo Akumfi Ameyaw IV has expressed his gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for the presentation of eight new vehicles to the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC). He stated that the Chiefs and people of the Bono East Region have long advocated for the creation of the region, and they are particularly appreciative that it was under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership that their aspirations were realized.

Speaking at a durbar held in the President’s honor on April 15, 2019, at his palace in Techiman, the Omanhene (traditional ruler) acknowledged the President’s efforts and raised a question to the gathering: “The Constitution of Ghana gives a sitting President only four years for their first term. Next year, we go to the polls again. What should we do for Nana Akufo-Addo?” He urged the people to show their appreciation next year but also humorously cautioned, “I don’t want you to go and disgrace me,” referring to how they should express their gratitude.

Nana Oseadeayo Akumfi Ameyaw IV also took the opportunity to thank the President for the eight vehicles, including three Nissan Patrols and five pickup trucks, which would aid in the smooth operations of the Bono East RCC. He further mentioned that more projects, including hospitals and schools, are planned for the region in the near future, benefiting key areas such as Techiman, Nkoranza, Kintampo, Yeji, Abease, Amanteng, and other towns along the river.

The Techiman Omanhene also shared his admiration for President Akufo-Addo’s accomplishments over the past two years and expressed concern about the short tenure allowed for Presidents under the current constitution. He reflected on a similar proposal made by former President Kufuor, which had not gained enough traction at the time. Nana Ameyaw IV suggested that the country would benefit from a longer presidential term, recommending a five or six-year mandate to provide ample time for sustained development.
