Four Dead in Crash on Techiman-Kumasi Road

Just a day after the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) revealed that 336 people lost their lives in road accidents within the first two months of 2018, another fatal crash has occurred on the Techiman-Kumasi road, claiming the lives of four individuals.

The accident, which took place early Thursday morning, involved an articulated truck transporting cattle, believed to be traveling from Burkina Faso to Kumasi. The truck collided with a Neoplan bus traveling from Accra to Techiman.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck driver swerved to avoid a head-on collision with a parked vehicle, causing the truck to crash into the bus. The impact resulted in significant damage to both vehicles, killing the two drivers and two passengers in the bus instantly.

Eighteen other passengers sustained various injuries. The identities of the deceased are still unknown.

DSP Mahmoud Yussif, the District Police Commander for Akumadan, confirmed the incident to Citi News and expressed concern over the high level of indiscipline on the country’s roads. He called on stakeholders to implement more stringent measures to address the issue.

The District Commander also appealed to the public to assist in identifying the deceased. Meanwhile, the 18 injured passengers are receiving medical treatment at the Nkenkansu Government Hospital and Afrancho AME Zion Hospital.
