Techiman MCE Pledges Stronger Engagement with Traditional Authorities for Development

Mr. Kweku Adjei Mensah, the Techiman Metropolitan Chief Executive, has reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) commitment to honoring and actively involving traditional authorities in national development efforts.
He emphasized that chiefs and queen mothers—being custodians of the land, culture, and tradition—play an indispensable role in the country’s progress. He assured that the government would continue to engage them meaningfully.
“The NDC remains committed to respecting, appreciating, and recognizing the vital contributions of traditional leaders in shaping society and driving accelerated development,” Mr. Mensah said.
He made these remarks during a meeting between the NDC and the Techiman Traditional Council in the Bono East Region, convened to address emerging issues between the two parties.
Mr. Mensah stressed the importance of strengthening the peaceful relationship between the NDC and traditional leaders, noting that sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace. “Peace is a valuable asset we must all protect if we desire progress,” he added.
He advised the youth not to allow themselves to be manipulated into causing disturbances and encouraged them to channel their energy into productive ventures.
The MCE highlighted several government initiatives—including the 24-hour economy policy—designed to create employment opportunities and secure a brighter future for young people. He cited former President John Dramani Mahama’s “reset agenda” as a blueprint for fast-tracking socio-economic advancement and building a more equitable society.
Nana Takyi Firi, the Krontrihene and Acting President of the Techiman Traditional Council, expressed the Council’s readiness to collaborate with the Metropolitan Assembly to advance development in the area. He noted that the metropolis requires significant infrastructure improvements and emphasized the need to maintain peace. He urged the Mayor to continue engaging the Council and working diligently to drive growth in the municipality.
