Renowned Ghanaian rapper, Solomon Adu Antwi, known professionally as Yaa Pono, has announced the passing of his father.
The festive season took a tragic turn for the “Obia Wo Ne Master” hitmaker and his family when, on Christmas Day, he shared the news of his father’s death, Mr. Adu Antwi, via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on December 28, 2023.
“Really hard 4 uptown losing my Dad on a Christmas Day. Jah guide you on your journey,,,Mr Adu Antwi ..,” he wrote.
In a 2022 interview on Angel FM, Yaa Pono reflected on the significant role his father played in his rise to fame, expressing that he wouldn’t have achieved his success without him. He explained that his father sacrificed greatly to help him become the man he is today. “My father is everything to me, and he has bestowed everything he has on me. He picked me up and drove me to where I am now, for which I am grateful.”
To honor his father’s support, Yaa Pono released the song “Yegya” from his “Sovran” album as a gesture of gratitude, acknowledging that “if I were my dad, I wouldn’t have survived.”
