Techiman Youth hunts for Two Men Over Homosexual Allegations

The youth of Techiman in the Bono East Region are actively seeking two individuals, Fuseini Salifu and his long-time school friend, Ahmed Anwar Sadat, due to their involvement in homosexuality.

The agitated youth in Takofiano, a suburb of Techiman, have expressed their intention to take action against Salifu, a Computer Engineer, and Sadat after discovering their alleged homosexual activities.

In Ghana, LGBT rights are highly restricted, and homosexual acts are illegal in the conservative, religiously driven society. While homosexuality remains criminalized under colonial-era laws, there have been no prosecutions to date. Physical and violent attacks against LGBT individuals are unfortunately common, often incited by the media, religious leaders, and political figures.

Reports of LGBT people being ostracized, including being evicted from their homes, are also prevalent.

Earlier this month, Salifu was caught engaging in homosexual acts with Sadat. According to reports, Salifu’s mother discovered the two men in the act and raised an alarm. Fearing for his safety, Salifu fled the area and has since gone missing.

In retaliation, Anwar’s house was vandalized, and the youth have threatened to return to deal with him and his family if they are found. Despite efforts by his family to locate him, Salifu’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Salifu’s younger brother, Hafix Mohammed, 34, has filed a formal complaint with the Techiman police, and an official announcement has been made through local media as of November 13, 2022, seeking information on Salifu’s whereabouts.
