Girls are prostituting because jobs in Ghana don’t pay well – Efia Odo

Efia Odo believes that fewer people would turn to prostitution if jobs paid fair wages. She argues that not everyone who engages in sex work does so by choice, but rather because they have no other option.
In a video shared on her official Twitter account, the socialite and actress linked poorly paid jobs and the high cost of living to the prevalence of prostitution in the country. She stressed the importance of addressing these issues and encouraged everyone to join the fight against bad governance as part of the Better Ghana Agenda.
In the video, Efia Odo, dressed in a vibrant African two-piece outfit, expressed her concerns, asking, “How can you be okay with children drinking contaminated water? Water with mercury. How is that acceptable? How are you okay with the lack of hospitals or hospital beds? How are you okay with children learning on the floor, or sitting on rocks? Would you allow your children to learn like that? If not, then why should it be acceptable for other children?”
She emphasized that if someone opposes the movement, they are either being paid to ignore the issues or are mentally unwell. She dismissed claims that the #FixTheCountry campaign is a political agenda, pointing out that it is simply a call for a better life for everyone.
Efia Odo also shared that while she is fortunate to receive promotional opportunities on her social media, not all girls have the same luck. She highlighted the struggles of many young women, saying, “There are many girls who want to work. Not everyone wants to resort to prostitution. But some people have no choice, especially when teachers are earning just 400 or 700 cedis a month. People are working hard for nothing!”
The #FixTheCountry movement, which gained momentum on Twitter, seeks to address issues of poor governance and advocate for a better future for Ghanaians.
