Techiman Municipal Education Directorate Distributes PPE to Schools to Combat COVID-19

The Techiman Municipal Education Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has distributed 89,589 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to 297 schools in the area as part of efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19. The recipients include six public Senior High Schools (SHSs), 97 public primary schools, 75 public Junior High Schools (JHSs), and 119 private schools, covering Primary, JHS, and SHS levels.
The PPE supplied included face masks, hand sanitizers, tissues, and liquid soap. The distribution benefitted approximately 5,690 SHS students and 76,016 students in basic schools across the municipality.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Stephen Adu, the Assistant Director of Education in charge of Finance and Administration at the Techiman Municipal Education Directorate, emphasized that the distribution of PPE was a clear demonstration of the Directorate’s commitment to implementing the government’s COVID-19 safety protocols in schools.
Mr. Adu highlighted the importance of regular monitoring and supervision by Circuit Supervisors, along with educating teachers, students, and pupils on the proper use of the PPE. He stressed that this approach was key to preventing the spread of the virus in schools.
He also appealed to parents and guardians to support the Directorate’s efforts by ensuring that their children wear masks and practice regular handwashing at home.
During a visit to some schools, including the Ameyaw Akumfi cluster of basic schools, the GNA observed that compliance with COVID-19 safety protocols was low among both teachers and students. However, Mr. Chris Anane, a teacher at Primary ‘A’ of the Ameyaw Akumfi cluster, assured that teachers were committed to enforcing the use of PPE. He stated firmly that no student would be allowed to attend class without wearing a face mask.
