EC receives NDC’s petition on Techiman South election results

The Electoral Commission (EC) has finally received the petition from the minority regarding the 2020 general elections. This came after the NDC Members of Parliament (MPs) initially faced difficulties in submitting the petition on Tuesday, November 22, 2020.
The MPs were prevented from reaching the EC’s premises by police officers who used force to stop them. Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu and Minority Chief Whip Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, who led the MPs, voiced their frustration over the incident, stating that they would not engage with the Electoral Commission in the 8th Parliament due to the disrespect shown to them.
The NDC MPs had accused the EC of refusing to accept their petition, but the EC later explained in a statement that no official was available to receive the petition because the minority had not given prior notice of their intended visit.
However, by Wednesday, December 22, 2020, it was confirmed by Citi News’ Sixtus Dong-Ullo that the petition had been officially received by the EC. In a letter accompanying the petition, Haruna Iddrisu expressed regret over the lack of access to the EC and the absence of an official to accept the petition on the day of their visit.
