Court Orders Collation of 147 Outstanding Techiman South Polling Station Results Before January 6

The High Court, presided over by Justice Forson Baah Agyapong, has ordered that results from 147 uncollated polling stations in the Techiman South Constituency be compiled, following a legal dispute involving the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Electoral Commission (EC).
In announcing the ruling, Justice Agyapong said the applicant, Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah, had satisfied all the legal criteria required to file a mandamus application. The court instructed that the outstanding results from the 147 polling stations be added to the already tallied figures from 135 of the 282 polling stations and formally declared by the returning officer in accordance with the law.
The judge noted that the applicant presented video evidence to support his case, although its authenticity was contested by the respondents. He emphasized that since the full set of polling station results was not included in the original collation, the court needed to intervene to ensure a complete and lawful process.
Dr. Christopher Beyere Baasongti, the NDC candidate and first interested party, represented by his lawyer, Godwin Kudzo Edudzi Tamaklo, argued that an election petition—not a mandamus application—was the proper legal route. He also challenged the applicant’s assertion that the EC had already declared a winner.
Justice Agyapong nonetheless upheld the mandamus request and instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide armed security for the collation, citing reports of threats against the returning officer.
The court further ordered that the collation of the remaining polling station results be completed by January 6, 2025.
