Seven people lost their lives in a collision between a Neoplan bus (registration AS 2733) traveling from Bolgatanga to Kumasi and a truck (registration AS 6615) along the Techiman-Kintampo Highway.
The truck, which was carrying tomatoes, was traveling from Kumasi to Burkina Faso. The accident occurred at around 4:50 a.m. on Friday at Tano Boasi near Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The truck driver, whose name is not yet known, died instantly, while his assistant, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to Techiman Holy Family Hospital. Five passengers on the Neoplan bus also died at the scene, and several others were injured.
An eyewitness reported that the accident happened after one of the truck’s rear tires burst, causing it to collide head-on with the Neoplan bus.
ASP Andrews Okonengye, Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Techiman, told Daily Guide that one person died upon arrival at the hospital, but did not provide an exact total of casualties.
