14 Doctors Dismissed from Techiman’s Holy Family Hospital After Strike

Over14 junior doctors undergoing training at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman, Brong Ahafo Region, have been dismissed after failing to report to work. The doctors, who are part of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), have declared a strike.

The hospital’s administrator, Christopher Akanbobnab, explained to Pulse.com.gh, “people have been sent to us for training and the people say we don’t want to work. So we have only written back to their employer, the Medical and Dental Council, to inform them that these people say they are unavailable for training and therefore we are releasing them to you for reassignment.”

He stressed that the dismissed doctors are not considered part of the hospital’s permanent staff, as the facility serves as a training center. “They are not our doctors,” he clarified.

About 91 junior doctors have gone on strike and gathered at the Controller and Accountant General’s Department. Although their salaries have since been paid, the junior doctors have expressed frustration, stating that with their senior medical officers also on strike, they feel sidelined and redundant in their roles.
