Techiman North District Celebrates 38th National Farmers Day with Awards and Recognition

The 38th National Farmers Day celebration in the Techiman North District took place at Ampenkro, within the Offuman Traditional Council. The event, which serves as a platform to recognize and reward outstanding farmers and aqua farmers for their significant contributions to the district’s agricultural sector, was held to motivate and inspire the local farming community.
During the ceremony, several crop and livestock processors were honored under the leadership of Nana Kwaku Gyan Guakro II, the Omanhene of the Offuman Traditional Council. The awards were categorized into three major and fifteen minor categories. The major awards included District Best Farmer, 1st Runner-up (2nd Best Farmer), and 2nd Runner-up (3rd Best Farmer).
The minor award categories focused on specific commodities and were divided into two primary groups: crop-based commodities (such as maize, rice, yam, vegetables, cowpea, cassava, and cocoa) and livestock-based commodities (including small ruminants like sheep and goats, cattle, poultry, and piggery). To encourage year-round farming, an irrigation farmer was also recognized for their efforts. Additionally, consolation prizes were awarded to farmers who showcased their produce at the event.
The celebration was attended by over 600 farmers, local opinion leaders, assembly members, and heads of district departments. In his keynote address, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Everson Addo-Donkor, spoke on the theme “Accelerating Agricultural Development through Value Addition.”
