Mahama Pledges Swift Investigation into 2020 Techiman South Election Violence if Elected in 2024

John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has promised to launch a swift investigation into the violence that occurred during the 2020 elections in Techiman South, if he wins the 2024 presidential election.

The Techiman South constituency was rocked by a shooting incident during the 2020 polls, which resulted in two deaths and six injuries. Speaking during his “Building The Ghana We Want” tour of the Bono East Region, Mahama criticized the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government for its failure to hold those responsible for the deaths accountable.

Mahama assured the residents of Techiman South that, under an NDC government, there would be a comprehensive investigation into the incident, with those found responsible being prosecuted. He also emphasized that the NDC would prioritize justice for all victims and their families.

“We are all aware of the tragic events here in 2020, where three of our people lost their lives. As president, you must serve all citizens equally, but since the incident, neither the president nor his officials have apologized. When a similar situation occurred in Ejura, a commission of inquiry was set up and compensation was paid, but Techiman has been completely ignored,” Mahama said. “When I become president, I will ensure that this matter is thoroughly investigated, and that justice is served for those who lost their lives.”
