MTN-Suncity Fest 2015: Techiman Hosts Thrilling Inter-Community Soccer Tournament

This year’s inter-community soccer event, titled ‘MTN-Suncity Fest, 2015,’ kicked off at Nana Ameyaw Park in Techiman. The event is a joint effort between MTN and Suncity Radio.

Mrs. Salomey Darko, the Regional Marketing Officer for MTN in the Northern Sector, explained that the inter-community soccer competition was part of MTN’s corporate social responsibility initiative to give back to their loyal customers across the country.She emphasized that, in addition to the fun and excitement of the event, MTN’s goal was to discover young soccer talent and help nurture them for greater achievements.

Mrs. Darko also noted that the month-long event would continue in Sunyani and Berekum, with hopes that it would grow in size and impact in the coming years.

Mr. Ransford Antwi, Managing Director of Suncity Multimedia, praised MTN for its dedication to community development and national progress through sports and other socio-economic contributions.

He encouraged Ghanaians to support MTN’s services and engage in more business with the company, so it could continue to contribute to the country’s growth.

Mr. Antwi expressed his gratitude to the management and staff of MTN, the chiefs and people of Techiman, the match officials, the Suncity Radio team, other media partners, and all stakeholders for their significant contributions to the success and longevity of the event.

He also called on other individuals and corporate organizations to support Suncity Radio’s efforts to discover soccer talent from younger players all the way through to adults.

Sixteen teams from various communities within the Techiman Municipality participated in the one-day competition, including teams from Holy Family, SabonZongo, Tunsuase, Dagomba Line, Blue Cross, Abuoso, Kenten, Central Zongo, Twimiakoase, Komfo-krom, Gyarko, New Krobo, Wangara Line, Takofiano, Ahenfi, and Sissala Line.

Sissala Line won the tournament by defeating Kenten 3-1 in a penalty shootout, while Wangara Line triumphed over Twimiakoase 3-2 on penalties to claim third place.

Clement Boahen and Richmond Munufie from Sissala Line, as well as Solomon Asamoah Gyan of Kenten, won the best player, best goalkeeper, and goal king awards, respectively.

The winning teams, along with the runners-up, received attractive prizes from MTN and Suncity Radio.

Mr. Sulemana Braima, the MTN Brong Ahafo Regional Manager, commended the people of Techiman for their strong turnout and excellent behavior, which contributed to the event’s success.

He urged Sunyani and Berekum to follow Techiman’s example when the competition moves to their areas later in the month.
