Techiman Mount Carmel SHS Appeals for Completion of Abandoned Infrastructure Projects

Mr. Frank Owusu, Patron of the Techiman Mount Carmel Girls’ Senior High School Student Representative Council (SRC) in the Bono East Region, has called for the completion of long-delayed infrastructure projects at the school.

He emphasized that the construction of a girls’ dormitory and a multi-purpose dining hall, both of which are crucial to the school’s development, should be completed to allow the school to accommodate more students.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Techiman, Mr. Owusu, who is also a tutor at the school, explained that these projects, which were about 75% completed when they started in 2015, have been stalled due to insufficient funding.

“The current dormitory and dining hall are too small to house the growing number of students, leading to overcrowding in the school,” he noted during the school’s first-ever SRC Week celebration.

He added that completing these two projects is vital to addressing the overcrowding issue and preventing the spread of diseases among students.

At present, the dormitory houses over 732 girls, and with the increasing number of students, it will be difficult to find space for incoming first-year boarders.

Founded in 2006, the school became a government-assisted institution in 2021. However, since then, it has not seen any significant government investment aside from the two unfinished projects.
