Parts of Techiman flooded after heavy downpour

Heavy rainfall in parts of Techiman in the Bono East Region on Thursday, April 27, 2023, caused widespread flooding, leaving residents and motorists stranded for hours. The downpour, which lasted from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, affected various areas in the Techiman South Municipality.
The flooding impacted 42 houses, six light poles, and a school block in Ahembroniso, while other areas such as Sansama, Ahenfie, Anyinabrem, Abanimu, and several suburbs also faced significant damage. Some residents expressed concerns about the loss of their farm produce, fearing they would be unable to transport their goods to market due to the flooding.
In addition, Mr. Eric Aseidu, Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for Techiman South, confirmed that a tragic death occurred during the storm. Mr. Yussif Issaka lost his life due to the heavy rainfall.
Despite the challenges, Mr. Aseidu commended the Techiman Municipal Fire Command for their swift response, carrying out two successful rescues during the deluge.
Techiman’s Municipal Fire Commander, DO III Henry Esson, urged residents to adopt better practices for disaster management. He emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal, noting that dumping rubbish in gutters exacerbates flooding.
