Buoyam Residents Threaten Mass Protest Over Poor Road Conditions

The chiefs and residents of Buoyam in the Techiman North District of the Bono East Region have threatened to take to the streets once again to protest the poor state of the roads in their area.

The chief of Buoyam, Daasebre Kwarteng Amaniapong, expressed frustration over the ongoing neglect of the area’s roads and announced that he would lead his people in a massive demonstration to voice their dissatisfaction. He has given the government a one-month ultimatum to address the road conditions.

Daasebre Amaniapong pointed out that Buoyam is a key agricultural hub and a notable tourist destination, but its roads are in such a bad condition that they are hindering the transportation of agricultural produce from various communities. Despite previously presenting a petition to the District Chief Executive (DCE) and hoping for a positive response, he said no action or plans have been communicated to the people regarding road repairs.

He further stated that, although Buoyam is a major producer of crops like yam in the Techiman North district, the roads leading to and from the town have been in disrepair for many years under successive governments.

The chief warned that if no response is received from the authorities within the given time frame, the residents will proceed with their planned protest. He emphasized that if the issue is not addressed now, politicians would only act to fix the roads as the election year approaches.

Daasebre Amaniapong also criticized the government’s neglect of Buoyam, saying it has contributed to socio-economic disparities and heightened poverty in the region. He vowed that the people would not stay silent, and he would personally lead the protest if necessary.

Residents of Buoyam also shared their frustration, particularly during the rainy season when the poor road conditions make travel even more difficult. One resident noted that the roads are so bad that accidents are common, and many people’s lives are at risk.

“We were promised last year that the roads would be paved, but nothing has been done. We are suffering, and if the roads are not fixed, we will not vote,” said one male resident, expressing the community’s anger and disappointment with the lack of action.
