Techiman South Health Directorate Intensifies Preventive Measures Against Yellow Fever Outbreak

Dr. Kwabena Fosohene Kusi, the Techiman South Municipal Director of Health Services, has assured that the Directorate is ready to monitor and track any potential outbreak of yellow fever through surveillance efforts in the area.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday, Dr. Kusi explained that while no cases of yellow fever have been reported in the region so far, extensive surveillance is being conducted at local health facilities and surrounding areas to identify and trace individuals who may have contracted the virus. This proactive approach aims to prevent any possible spread.

Dr. Kusi also highlighted that the Directorate has initiated community awareness campaigns regarding the yellow fever outbreaks in other regions, such as the Savanna Region, urging residents to stay vigilant and take precautions to avoid contracting the virus.

As part of preventive measures, the Directorate has begun mass vaccination campaigns targeting both adults and infants in the region to safeguard against a potential outbreak.

He emphasized the importance of preventing mosquito bites, as mosquitoes are the primary carriers of the virus. Dr. Kusi recommended maintaining clean environments by clearing overgrown areas, eliminating stagnant water sources, and using insecticide-treated mosquito nets to prevent mosquito breeding. These actions are essential in reducing the risk of infection.

Furthermore, Dr. Kusi urged the public to promptly report any symptoms of yellow fever, such as fever, headache, vomiting, severe jaundice, and bleeding, to the nearest health facility for quick medical attention and treatment.
