Minister Kofi Amoakohene Offers Support to Families of Victims of Techiman Post-Election Violence

Bono East Regional Minister Kofi Amoakohene has visited the families of two victims who lost their lives in the post-election violence that broke out in Techiman Municipality on December 8, 2020. Accompanied by members of the Bono East Regional Security Council, the Minister, representing the government, presented GH¢5,000 each to the grieving families on Wednesday.
The victims, Tajudeen Mohammed, 39, and Abdalla Ayarek, 18, were killed by stray bullets during the unrest at the Techiman Bonokyem Hall. Five other individuals were injured by gunshot wounds. The violence occurred when security forces fired shots to disperse a crowd after NDC supporters attempted to forcibly enter the hall, where the results of the recent elections were being collated.
Mr. Amoakohene also visited the four individuals who sustained gunshot injuries — Nashiru Alhassan, Jadalhak Idriss, Ajara Fuseini, and Abubakar Idriss — and presented them with GH¢1,000 each. The injured victims have since been treated and released from the hospital, except for Eliasu Sulemana, who remains in the Orthopedic Department of Wenchi Methodist Hospital.
Describing the tragic incident as deeply unfortunate, Mr. Amoakohene urged the public to remain calm and allow the police to carry out their investigations, assuring that those responsible for the violence would be prosecuted.
