NALAG Elects Regional Representative for Bono-East Ahead of Upcoming Delegates Conference

The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) held a special Regional Delegates Conference at the Techiman Municipal Assembly to elect a regional representative for the Bono-East Region, who will advocate for the region’s interests at the National Council.
This conference is part of preparations for the upcoming 20th Bi-Annual Delegates Conference, scheduled for June 12-15, 2019, in Sunyani, Bono Region, under the theme “Ghana Beyond Aid – A Paradigm Shift.”
Professor Ameyaw Akumfi chaired the event and thanked the attendees, noting that while it was the first NALAG meeting for the Bono-East Region, the turnout was highly impressive.
Hon. Kofi Amoahkohene, the Regional Minister for Bono-East and Member of Parliament for Atibubu/Amantin, welcomed members to the region’s inaugural delegates’ conference. He expressed his gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for appointing him as the Regional Minister and assured members of his commitment to the development of the new region. He urged everyone to work together for the region’s progress.
The National President of NALAG, Hon. Felix Mensah Nii Anan-La, who is also the Mayor of Tema, expressed his satisfaction at being part of the meeting to elect the new representative for Bono-East. He acknowledged the importance of assembly members in local governance, stating that no assembly can function without their support. He also mentioned that the delivery of motorbikes to assembly members was nearly complete, with 95% of the distribution achieved.
He praised the hospitality of the people in the Brong-Ahafo Region prior to the creation of the new regions and wished all candidates success in the election.
At the end of the conference, Issah Gariba from Atebubu/Amantin was unanimously endorsed “unopposed” as the regional representative for Bono-East at the National Council.
Hon. Kokro Amankwah, the General Secretary of NALAG, remarked that the day would be remembered in Bono-East history, as it marked the fulfillment of the President’s 2016 campaign promise and NALAG’s commitment to having regional representatives who would champion the concerns of members. He emphasized that the creation of new regions requires new leadership and that the theme of the Sunyani conference aligns with the President’s vision of reducing reliance on loans and working toward a self-sufficient Ghana.
