MTN Ghana Donates to Support Techiman’s Apoo Festival

MTN Ghana, the country’s leading telecommunications provider, has donated GhC5,000 and assorted beverages in support of the 2019 “Apoo” festival, celebrated by the chiefs and people of Techiman in the newly established Bono East Region. In addition, the company provided GhC500 worth of airtime for the chiefs as part of the preparations for the festival, which will take place in April.

Mr. Osei Akoto, the Northern Sector Commercial Manager of MTN Ghana, explained that the donation was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, aimed at preserving and promoting Ghana’s rich cultural heritage. “MTN recognizes the vital role traditional authorities play as development partners, and we are pleased to support this and other festivals, as they provide an excellent opportunity to showcase our nation’s cultural legacy,” he said.

Mr. Akoto also highlighted that MTN had designated 2019 as the “Customer Year,” with a promise of enhanced, high-quality telecommunication services for its customers. He further stated that over four million people had directly and indirectly benefited from more than 142 development projects initiated and completed by MTN across the country. These projects have focused on sectors such as health, education, and economic empowerment.

Nana Korsahkore Topia II, the Gyaasehene of the Techiman Traditional Area, received the donation on behalf of Oseadeeyo Akumfi IV, the Paramount Chief of Techiman. He expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana for its ongoing support of the festival and appealed for the company to expand the reach of the MTN Foundation’s activities to benefit the people of Techiman. Nana Topia also urged other corporate organizations to contribute, whether financially or in kind, to ensure the success of the festival.
