Techiman Selected as Bono East Capital; Nkoranza Chiefs Raise Concerns

President Nana Akufo-Addo has officially declared Techiman as the capital of the newly created Bono East Region. The announcement was made during an event at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, where the President also presented the Constitutional Instrument that formalizes the creation of the region.
“I am pleased to announce that Techiman has been selected as the capital,” President Akufo-Addo stated during the ceremony.
In the meantime, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Evans Opoku-Bobie, has been appointed as the caretaker Minister for the Bono East Region until a permanent minister is appointed. The government has also allocated GH₵20 million to each of the six newly created regions to ensure their smooth transition and operation.

Earlier in the week, President Akufo-Addo also presented the Constitutional Instrument for the creation of the Savannah and North East Regions. Damango was named the capital of the Savannah Region, while Nalerigu was designated as the capital of the North East Region.
However, the announcement of Techiman as the capital of the Bono East Region has sparked some controversy. The chiefs and people of the Nkoranza Traditional Area have accused the Minister of Regional Reorganisation and Development, Dan Botwe, and his Deputy, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, of excluding them from the consultation process during the creation of the region.
