NRSC to Conduct Night Enforcement on Techiman-Kintampo Highway Ahead of Easter Festivities

As the Easter holidays approach, the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), in partnership with key stakeholders, will conduct a night-time enforcement operation along the Techiman-Kintampo highway to reduce road accidents.
Mr. Kwesi Agyenim Boateng, the NRSC’s Brong-Ahafo Regional Head, explained that the rising number of accidents on the highway is partly due to overloading and excessive speeding. He noted that many heavy-duty vehicles traveling on the highway at night often speed, despite having poor lighting systems.
Speaking at a road safety education campaign in the Techiman Municipality, Mr. Boateng stated that the NRSC would work with the Techiman Municipal branch of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to carry out enforcement activities. He also emphasized the requirement for heavy-duty trucks traveling at night to have retro-reflective tape affixed, warning that drivers who fail to comply would face legal action.
Mr. Boateng urged drivers with faulty lighting systems to repair them to avoid penalties and reminded all drivers to avoid speeding, driving under the influence, and to follow road safety signs and regulations in order to reduce accidents.
He expressed gratitude to the MTTD and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) for their strong support in promoting road safety and enforcement in the region.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Andrews Okonengye, the Techiman Municipal Commander of the MTTD, stated that the police would not tolerate reckless or careless driving. He advised drivers to ensure their vehicles were roadworthy and warned those without first aid kits, spare tires, and fire extinguishers to obtain them. Additionally, he urged drivers with expired licenses to renew them.
ASP Okonengye reminded drivers that road signs are there to guide them and to obey these signs for their safety. Commercial drivers were also briefed on road traffic regulations, tire safety, and vehicle maintenance.
