Techiman South MP Donates to Support Rainstorm Victims

The Member of Parliament for Techiman South in the Brong Ahafo Region, Henry Yiadom Boakye, has called on donors and development partners to support the municipality in speeding up its development efforts.

He also encouraged residents to plant trees, not only as windbreaks, but as an additional source of income.

The MP made these remarks during a ceremony where he handed over 55 packets of roofing sheets worth GH¢18,000 to the municipal NADMO office. The materials are to be distributed to victims of a recent rainstorm that caused extensive damage across the municipality.

Yiadom Boakye explained that the donation was meant to provide temporary relief for affected families, following his joint assessment of the destruction with NADMO officials.

The rainstorm, which struck at dawn on April 24, 2017, caused severe damage to both private and public properties, including the boundary wall of the Holy Family Hospital. The hardest-hit communities were Ahenbronoso, Dwomor, Hausa Line, and Abourso, where about 36 houses lost their roofs, leaving more than 195 residents displaced.

Municipal NADMO Coordinator Labib Jibreel Kesse praised the MP for the support, noting that the items would greatly assist the victims. He attributed the scale of destruction to poor roofing practices, substandard construction, inadequate building materials, and limited technical knowledge among local builders.
