11th Tidal Rave Festival demonstrates growth of youth-led festival

The Tidal Rave Festival, an annual beach event organized by EchoHouse Africa, has solidified its role as a major youth platform, drawing young people from diverse backgrounds. The 11th edition, held on Saturday, 12th October 2024, in Ghana under the theme “Catch The Sun,” showcased the festival’s growing impact on youth culture, attracting a mix of tertiary students and out-of-school young Africans shaping cultural conversations.
The festival celebrated key youth cultural elements like music, fashion, content, and photography. It also highlighted support for young entrepreneurs, content creators, and those pursuing creative careers, providing them with free access to engage with festival-goers and expand their networks.
Collaboration among young creatives was strongly encouraged, fostering a supportive environment for those working together on projects like content creation and music.
Music, the heart of the festival, included a variety of genres such as Afrobeat, Amapiano, hiplife, hip hop, and Alté sounds. The event featured two main stages: the Sunny Side Stage, which ran throughout the day with DJs and MCs, and the Solar and Sunset Stages, which hosted live performances in the afternoon and evening. Popular artists like Kwesi Arthur, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, KiDi, and EL performed, captivating the audience.
Despite occasional rain, attendees remained committed to enjoying the festival, encouraging artists to extend their sets. Building on last year’s success, this edition surpassed expectations, setting a high bar for future events.
Beryl Agyekum Ayaaba, CEO of EchoHouse Africa, emphasized the need to continually refresh the festival’s elements to ensure its relevance, while Event Director Awo Somuah noted the ongoing challenge of keeping the festival appealing to both new and returning Ravers.
Tidal Rave has become a staple in the youth culture scene in Ghana, Liberia, and will soon expand to Nigeria as well.
