Edem Calls for Economic Reforms to Support Business Growth and Young Entrepreneurs

Renowned Ghanaian artist Ayigbe Edem has expressed his concerns about the country’s current economic challenges.
In an interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie, Edem emphasized that the country’s new leaders must introduce substantial changes to create a thriving business environment for entrepreneurs, especially the youth.
He pointed out that Ghanaians are not asking for handouts, but rather for an ecosystem where businesses can grow and succeed. He called on the government to provide young people with access to low-interest loans and to ensure a stable currency to facilitate smooth business transactions.
“I don’t think people are asking for money. We’re asking for environments where businesses can thrive, for young people to have access to loans with manageable interest rates, and for businesses to operate in a climate where the dollar remains stable for a significant period—maybe six months or a year. Our new leaders should make this happen,” Edem said.
He made these remarks during the 2024 BHIM Fest, organized by Reggae/Dancehall artist Stonebwoy in Accra on December 22, 2024. The event featured Stonebwoy performing his biggest hits and brought together top artists from Ghana and beyond, including Efya, Praye, Edem, Jamaica’s Spice, and Nigeria’s Davido.
